Interrobang

Most people in my life have heard me go on about how great the typographical exclamation point/question mark combo would be (I know you can just do this: ?!, but doesn’t a rhetorical question/statement deserve so much more ?!) . Years ago, I had done a little hunting around, and discovered that this ingenious mark had been created at one point, but never caught on.

This time around, finding the Interrobang was much easier. Created in 1962, by Martin Speckter (”an adovocate of precision in communication”) the Interrobang did receive some attention: “Remington Rand included the key as an option on its 1968 typewriters, commenting that the INTERROBANG “expresses Modern Life’s Incredibility.”

The interrobang is available in MS Word, go to wingdings 2 and hit the tilde key.
